Saying 22
Jesus saw infants being suckled. He said to his disciples. These infants taking milk are like those who enter the Kingdom.
His disciples asked him: If we are infants will we enter the Kingdom?
Jesus responded: When you make the two into one, and when you make the inside like the outside and the outside like the inside, and the upper like the lower, and the male and the female the same, so that the male isn't male and the female isn't female, when you make an eye to replace an eye, and a hand to replace a hand, and a foot to replace a foot, and an image to replace an image, then you will enter the Kingdom.
Babies are totally dependent on momma's milk and love it, want it, seek it, are nourished profoundly by it emotionally, physically, spiritually, intellectually. When a baby is very young, they can't be tickled because they don't experience themselves separate from others' bodies. They are one with all and seek out that oneness, need it for their survival. That's what happens when as I stay in, am surrendered into the Kingdom. When I separate from God's design for living, a sense of separation returns, separation from God, my fellow brothers and sisters, and my own sanity.
How does two become one? Like the yin yang symbol? There is a little white within the black and a little black within the white. The Gye Nayame is even better, pictured below. A whole is made out of two mirrored parts that are unified in fluid energy. In yoga, the breath and body unify. During marriage, love making, orgasm, a kiss, male and female become one.
The outside and inside match when the heart is pure and its purity is expressed or when a person is at one with the Creator, walking in harmony.
When the upper chakras are unified with the lower, there is unity. When those who have are supportive of those who have not (upper and lower of class) there is justice, wholeness, peace. so many examples. "For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them." Matthew 18:20
How do you make an eye to replace an eye, etc? Instead of "an eye for an eye," the lost eye is replaced. This might literally be a new eye through medical science or the "third eye" allowing the individual who has been harmed to see the Realm of Spirit.
The "hand of the Lord" replaces the hand of man, which can be so cruel.
"Smart feet" replace feet that go the wrong way. How many times have my "smart feet" taken me to meet with a suffering alcoholic, to a meeting, or to talk honestly with a sober friend or sponsor? The TRUE image of God replaces a false image of God. What is the image of God? For me the Gye Nyame comes the closest. When you experience God's presence, what do you see, feel, know? THAT is the image of God. Can't an "image" be a vibration? love? connection? a glimpse into the divine choreography?

Saying 23
Jesus said: I will choose one of you out of a thousand and two of you out of ten thousand. They will stand up and they will be alone.
This is so like Psalm 91 and emphasizes the tremendous power of what we are up against here in the world. We have the "terror of the night," the "pestilence," "the arrows that fly by day," "the destruction at noonday," etc...

A thousand may fall at your side,
ten thousand at your right hand,
but it will not come near you.
You will only look with your eyes
and see the recompense of the wicked.

"Holy Folks Highway" is not traffic-jammed. Steering clear of all the ego-centric bullshit generated from within and without is a lifetime challenge. It sometimes seems to me that Pilgrim's Progress is right on... there are always new challenges to encounter, new branches of self-centeredness, new forums for pride, new terrors to face. God guide us!!
Saying 24
His disciples said to him: Show us the place you are, for it is essential for us to seek it. He responded: He who has ears, let him hear. There is light within a man of light, and he lights up all of the world. If he is not alight there is darkness.
It's up to each of us to find, nurture, and maintain the light within! Thank God we have 12 Steps to lead us to back to the light again and again and again.
